The island’s calendar.
Three events govern this island’s booking calendar. Know them and the availability puzzle solves itself.
The mono datelines
- WHALE SEASON — DEC → APR · PEAK VISITOR DEMAND, DEC/JAN FULLEST
- IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP — OCT · KONA RENTALS AND TABLES COMPRESS
- MERRIE MONARCH — SPRING · HILO FILLS; EAST-SIDE DATES TIGHTEN
- SEPTEMBER — THE QUIETEST MONTH; THE EASIEST BOOKINGS
What compresses first
Chef calendars, premium rentals, and the Saturday dinner slots — in that order. December through March and Ironman week move six-plus weeks out early. The published rate card never changes with season; only the calendar tightens.
Weather as seasonality
The west side is the dry side — 9–12 inches of rain a year at the coast — while Hilo runs 100+. Outdoor service is the Kona default and the Hilo calculated risk, all year, every year.
Questions, answered
September and the shoulder weeks of May and October (outside race week) offer the easiest availability at the same published prices — value here is measured in dates, not discounts.
