December through April the humpbacks work the Kohala Coast and the island fills. Dinner on the lanai with a breach mid-course is not a promise we can make — but we book the table under it.
The peak-window truth
Whale season is the island’s demand peak, and it compresses chef calendars first. The rate card does not change — CORE $150–$225 a guest — but December–March dates want six weeks of lead, and the holiday weeks want more.
The winter menu
Winter service on the west side runs outside nearly every night — Kona’s coast sees 9–12 inches of rain a year. Long sunsets, cool evenings, the grill working: the season cooks well.
Questions, answered
