Lead times, honestly stated.
The honest answer is a calendar, not a number. Here is the Big Island booking calendar as we actually experience it.
The ledger
- NORMAL WEEKS — 2–4 WEEKS OF LEAD IS COMFORTABLE
- DECEMBER–MARCH (WHALE SEASON) — 6+ WEEKS; HOLIDAY WEEKS MORE
- WEDDING WEEKS — 3 MONTHS PREFERRED
- IRONMAN WEEK (OCTOBER) — 8+ WEEKS; KONA COMPRESSES FIRST
- MERRIE MONARCH (SPRING, HILO) — EAST-SIDE DATES COMPRESS
Why the peaks compress
December to April stacks whale season, holidays, and snowbird season on one calendar. October’s Ironman fills Kona rentals and dinner tables in the same week. The rate card never changes with demand — but availability does, and the 50% deposit is what locks your date.
Short-notice reality
Inside a week, the answer is often yes on the west side and honestly assessed east-side. Same-day east-side requests are declined — the Saddle does not negotiate.
Questions, answered
Yes — far-out dates book at the current published card with the deposit locking the date. If rates are republished before your date, your written quote stands.
